Species Information

General:
Perennial herb from a taproot and branching stem-base, rhizomatous; forming mats to 10 cm across; flowering stems erect, 2-4 cm tall.
Leaves:
Basal leaves oblanceolate to elliptic, 3-8 mm long, 1-2 mm wide, sharp-pointed; stem leaves opposite, 1-4 pairs, 3-5 mm long; stipules lacking.
Flowers:
Inflorescence of erect, solitary flowers; petals 5, white, narrowly oblong, 3-4 mm long; sepals 5, egg-shaped, 3-4 mm long, more or less glandular-hairy.
Fruits:
Capsules egg-shaped, 4-6 mm long, 3- or 6-valved; seeds brown, shiny, more or less kidney-shaped, 0.7-0.9 mm long, almost smooth.

Habitat and Range

Moist gravelly sites in the subalpine zone; rare in EC and N BC, known only from Mt. Robson Provincial Park; E to AB and N to AK, YT and NT.
